The Flu & Happiness Is a Cute Kitten: Pet Photography, Toronto, Ontario

We recently had the flu in our house, with both my son and daughter home for most of the week with it, I simply could not resist these photos of Alice keeping sick Noah company while he played on his DS:
SickNoahWAlice.jpg

Last weekend I completely got caught up in photographing Alice over the course of the day. All of the shots were taken with bounced on-camera flash, as natural light was non-existent. Love this shot of Alice, all fluffy and cute:

(See “My Camera Equipment” in footer section for links/more information on camera equipment used.)

A few images of her during the crazy kitty time of day, ready to pounce:

The next two images were taken with my Lensbaby lens, this first one with the macro filter attachment for extreme close-up and very shallow depth of field, love the sharp nose and how everything else is a blur:

Lensbaby lens with no macro filter attachment and no aperture disk installed:

Shot with the Canon 100 mm f2.8 macro lens:

Envy her ability to sleep anywhere, shot wide open with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens:

The following images were all taken with the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens:

Alice is wondering “When is lunch already?”

Capturing her climbing up her scratching post was tricky! She moves so fast:

Love this comical last shot of Alice. Sirens were going by on Avenue Road, and I think she was wondering what the heck the noise was all about, lol:

She continues to be a great joy to the whole family, happiness is having such a fun and wonderful new addition to our family. 🙂

Trip to Ward’s Island: Toronto, Ontario Photographer

A few weeks ago a friend and I took my kids and went across to Ward’s Island. Despite the ongoing Toronto strike, it was not at all difficult to get across to the Island as there is a smaller ferry (water taxi) that makes regular trips to and from the Islands. Public washrooms are also open on the Island.

I decided to bring along my Lensbaby lens for a change.

Caught this one of Noah as we were in the ferry about to depart to the Island:

Noah braved the cold of the water right away:

Equipment Used: The following were taken with the Canon 70–200 f2.8L IS lens.

It was an absolutely PERFECT day! It was breezy coming across on the ferry, but once we got to the beach there was no wind to speak of, a beautiful summer day, which have been in very short supply here in Toronto this summer!

Rebecca decided the water was way too cold, she enjoyed the beach:

Noah brought toys from home to play with:
20090704-_W5I9834.jpg

Then he and his sister enjoyed the beach together:

The long zoom of a 200 mm lens is perfect for shots like this! Well away from the splashing of the water!

Rebecca returns from a washroom break:

Noah really braved the water at this point! Right in there swimming:
20090704-_W5I9949.jpg

20090704-_W5I9924.jpg

He was freezing when he came out, I think he was glad I insisted that he bring a warm jacket!
20090704-_W5I9975.jpg

For the trip back I changed back to the Lensbaby lens again, caught these two sunset skyline shots on the way across to the mainland:
20090704-_W5I0094.jpg

20090704-_W5I0103.jpg

The Lensbaby lens is especially fun for evening/nighttime shots as the lights in the background create such cool bokeh.

Ward’s Island is a wonderful way to spend a beautiful summer day! Let’s hope we have more beautiful sunny weekends like this one, rather then what we’ve had this current weekend which is lots of rain and thunder!

Kensington Market/Yorkville Park

The kids and I went down to Kensington Market this past Saturday with a friend. I decided to ONLY bring my lensbaby to shoot with as I haven’t done much shooting with it lately.

Rebecca, giving me the ‘look’:

In the Blue Banana Market, they have these cool pieces of artwork going up the stairs, numbers and @ sign, cut out of steel (or something) and painted. I thought the colour and texture was cool so took some macro shots with the lensbaby of the edges:

After we were hungry, so got some yummy meat patties, Noah was having fun watching the pigeons overhead:

Noah bought some funky glasses at the Blue Banana Market:

Caught this last shot of Noah, laughing, as we arrived back at the car:

On Sunday we headed down to Bloor Street to run some errands (the following were all shot with the 85 1.2L):

After our errands we went to the ‘big rock’ in Yorkville. Rebecca sat and applied nail polish, which didn’t end up being a great idea when she started moving and messed it up!

They both had fun running around on top of the big rock:

We stopped and had some lunch at Whole Foods on the way home:

I managed to get in front of the kids to capture a few shots:

Noah stopped in at the corner store, and Rebecca and I waited for him:
