CNE 2013: Toronto Photography

I’m one of ten official CNE Bloggers this year, which means multiple trips to the CNE, and fun photographic possibilities.

Summer is fast coming to a close, so any excuse to be outside enjoying a balmy summer evening is wonderful. I’ve been timing my visits for the afternoon/evening for the best light for photography. In this blog post I’ll be sharing images from the various rides at the CNE.

This one is a fave. I wished I’d had a longer focal length, as I had to crop it a little, but just love this shot with the setting sun in the corner, and the people silhouetted as they await their turn on the Zip Line, a new ride this year at the CNE:

The Canadian flags against a sky of blue, the Ring of Fire ride:

I’m not sure of the name of this ride…swinging people against a sky of blue:

Captured the same evening as the Zip Line ride image at the beginning of the blog post, this is the Blitzer Roller Coaster:

Another from the same night, I think this is the Ferris Wheel ride:

Spa Day: Toronto Photography

My sister won a contest, sponsored by Maple Leaf, so we, and two friends, were treated to a lovely ‘spa day’. A chef arrived to cook us a delicious lunch, before we each had individual massages, manicures and pedicures. What a lovely indulgence it was!

The salad the chef prepared:

Corn cobs:

Great technique for removing those pesky corn silks:

Corn cobs started in the pot the chef brought with him, chicken (the ‘Maple Leaf’ part), started in his frying pan on the gas stove:

Corn was then moved to a frying pan, fried in bacon fat if I recall correctly…if you didn’t like bacon, not sure you’d enjoy this lunch! lol. 😉

Dicing thick slices of bacon:

Frying:

Crispy bacon was added to pre-prepared potatoes, part of a potato side dish:

Then it was warmed in the pan…with more bacon fat…yum! It’s certainly not a way I usually eat!

The Beauty of Rain Droplets: Toronto Photography

I’ve done quite a few macro rain droplet photos (see previous rainy day photography herehereherehere and here), and I love, and am quite fascinated by how similar, yet different and unique the photos are to each other. Droplets form differently. The light outside is different. I’m sure there will be more to come… 🙂

Tried out a focus-stacking technique in Photoshop for the next two images:
