Cool looking clouds in the distance…

A windy cold day today in Toronto, gives an interesting pattern to the clouds/sky in the distance.

I love the colors of this. The composition really makes it dimensional.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a ‘sky today‘ photo, because it’s been so grey and dreary in Toronto lately, it wasn’t much of a sky to photograph! So here are three shots from this morning, as well as a photo from a few days ago, when I captured window washers at Canada’s National Ballet School:

When I started out, it was snowing a bit, so was hoping for more of that, alas, it was mostly grey.

A recent headshot mini-session.

I love these two shots.
I’d love some more details on the set up. I couldn’t tell from the catch lights if these were naturally lit. What was the focal range and aperture.
Hi Mark,
Thanks! I’m primarily a natural light photographer, most of my headshot photos are entirely shot in natural light, as these two were. See the info below the photos for technical information, which camera/lens I used. I always shoot wide open, and generally at the longest focal length whenever possible.

I’ve seen other portrait photogs preferring these focal lengths because you try to get away from the distortions of standing close. Isn’t it hard to maintain a rapport from 200mm though? What do you do to keep this from being a problem?
No, I haven’t really had an issue with maintaining rapport. Sometimes it’s hard for the client to hear instructions from me, so I have to step closer for a moment, but other then that, no issues.
Nice work Holly. The lighting is very natural and the image really pops!
