March 2010 EatSavvy: Commercial Food Photography

The EatSavvy theme for this month is EGGS! And just check out the yummy images (with links to the recipes) below.

(Equipment Used: The following were captured with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV, the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens, and the Canon 580EX II Speedlite.)

This shot of Baked Blueberry French Toast is probably one of my all time favourite food shots, as it looks just as delicious as it tasted! I’ve already made this at home for the kids and I. Super easy to prepare it the night before, then you just have to pop it in the oven when meal time arrives! Yum!

Love this shot of Chick-in-the-Hole too! A bright ‘sunny’ image! 😉

Yum, love stir-frys!

And, last but not least, Fettuccine Carbonara:

My (10th) Birthday Boy: Toronto Family Photography

Can’t believe that my youngest turned 10 this month!

(Equipment Used: Birthday images were shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 85 f1.2L lens.)

We celebrated with a special treat on the actual day:
Noah, the birthday boy

Then my family came this past weekend for cake:

(Alice images were shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens.)

A few shots of Alice to finish up this quick blog update. Alice sat right by the window for the first image. The last two show her new perch in the house that Rebecca and Noah can’t stand. I only managed to captured these two before Noah whisked her off, afraid she would fall, lol!

Tomorrow I’m off to photograph the adorable Miles again, this time with his two older sisters. Watch for the sneak peek soon! Will also be posting the delicious images from the March EatSavvy shoot! Yum!

January 2010 EatSavvy: Commercial Food Photography, Toronto, Ontario

Another extremely yummy EatSavvy shoot this month, featuring the “Super Grain” (that’s not really a grain).

Quoting from SavvyMom.ca: Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wah), though new to many of us, has been around since pre-Columbian civilizations. Quinoa is what’s considered a complete protein, meaning that it has all nine essential amino acids. It’s also an excellent source of iron and dietary fiber, it is gluten free, and it’s easily digestible. It’s not actually a grain, but the seed of a plant called Chenopodium or Goosefoot. However, because of its cooking characteristics and texture, it is often substituted for a grain. Use it in places you would normally use rice or couscous.

Here’s a macro shot of what red Quinoa looks like when it’s cooked: (Shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIII, Canon 100 mm f2.8 macro lens and Canon 580EX II Speedlite.)

The incredibly delicious Quinoa and Mixed Berry Hot Cereal, it’s a new fave for me. I add frozen blueberries, dried cranberries, and toasted pumpkin seeds, yum!:

The Veggie Bean Chili with Quinoa is fabulous too! Made a batch myself this past weekend:

The Winter Citrus Quinoa Salad is super yummy! I made up a batch that lasted most of the week, it’s great to have something delicious and healthy to pull out of the fridge:

Had the Teriyaki Chicken Stir-Fry with Quinoa for lunch after the shoot, love stir-frys, and this one was as yummy as everything else from the shoot:

Looking forward to the February shoot…which will warm those cold winter days! Keep an eye out for photos and links to the recipes next month!

Holiday Baking 2009

The kids and I managed to fit in some holiday baking this year, which is great because I love giving that personalized gift of holiday baking!

(See “My Camera Equipment” in footer section for links/more information on camera equipment used.)

One day we made gingerbread cookies (shot with the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens), and you can find the recipe on the SavvyMom EatSavvy Blog, where I participated in the Great Savvy Bake-Off:

On another day we made some yummy sugar cookies (shot with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens):

The kids had fun decorating these ones (shot with the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens):

Throughout all the baking activity, Alice just ‘chillaxed‘ (as my daughter Rebecca would say), which was a very good thing! Except when she disappeared from hanging out with us on the evening of the gingerbread cookie baking, Noah found her snacking on a gingerbread cookie in the dining room! They were set out to let the icing completely dry…have to get used to having a cat that can get into food in the house! lol (Shot with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens):
