Summer 2009 Recent Shots/Out & About: Toronto Family Photographer

Time for a big catch-up on some recent shots from this summer…which I can’t believe is almost over!

Rebecca did some summer camp programs at the Sewing Studio on Avenue Road. For one of the camps all the girls had their hair and make-up done, so we took a few photos in the driveway next to our house (shot with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens):

Some recent, decent (except for the air bubbles!), latté art:

Got together with my photog friends at Rebecca Woods’ new studio/office. We were playing around with some off-camera flash, but these were taken in existing light. The sunset outside her studio window was too beautiful to not photograph…kind of wished we’d been out and about in the beautiful evening air shooting that night!

(Equipment Used: All of the following were taken with the Canon 50 f1.4 lens and Canon 5D. I thought I’d give it a try as it’s a much lighter option for carrying for extended periods over the Canon EOS-1D MarkIII and Canon 85 f1.2L lens combo, but the result isn’t nearly as good…but decent for the reduced weight of equipment. All of the following images were shot wide open at f1.4.)

Kids and I set off to do some back to school shopping, but first Noah had to buy a new frog:

NoahFrogCollage.jpg

Can’t beat the bokeh created shooting wide open!

Noah was happy as I treated him to a new Nintendo DS game, which kept him busy while his sister & I shopped:

20090816-_MG_9315.jpg

Again, loving the bokeh:

Rebecca at a shoe shop, shopping for back-to-school shoes (wish I could have found something for Noah…no selection to speak of in the Yonge/Bloor area):

Afterward we had an ice cream break at Summer’s Ice Cream Shop in Yorkville. Especially nice as there was something Noah could have (he usually misses out on ice cream due to his peanut/nut allergy). We puzzled over the bizarrely worded sign in a dry cleaners window next to the ice cream shop:

Last week Rebecca and I went out for lunch and to run some errands. Her newly created sock monkey (made at one of her Sewing Studio camps), Fredrick, accompanied us. I think he’s just the cutest creation!:

On our journey through the Annex we came across some damage from that crazy storm we had last Thursday night:

After running some errands we stopped for lunch at Big Sushi on Bloor:

Loving their sweet potato sushi, just wish they offered a brown rice version:

Bokeh, baby, bokeh!

20090821-_MG_9425.jpg

Loving the backlight of this shot, and the bokeh!

Rebecca is loving her new sunglasses:

Yeah! All caught up!

The F-R Family: Family Photography, Toronto, Ontario

I recently had the pleasure of photographing the F-R family, on a hot Tuesday morning, but we were just very happy and relieved that the rain held off for our shoot!

We started the session in their local park, just letting the girls play and have fun.

LOVED Sarah’s outfit, aren’t those shoes just too cute?

Claire and her Dad had fun playing together:

I brought out the bubbles, mom gives Sarah a hand:

Love this shot of Claire, tilted head and beautiful out-of-focus background (shot wide open at f1.2 with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens):

_W5I0962.jpg

The park we went to has these very cool colourful pillars around a park building, Claire and Sarah were adorable sharing a moment of sisterly love:

_W5I1028.jpg

Loved working the pillars into a family shot:

Then we headed back to their house for some much needed water and some close-ups of the girls, love, love, love this shot of Claire!

_W5I1183.jpg

And also adore this shot of Sarah, relaxed and smiling:

Thank you to Chris, Katie, Claire and Sarah for the fun morning at the park!

Project Love Winner Announced: Toronto Family Photographer Gifts a Photography Session to Celebrate Love

(**UPDATE** you can see the sneak peek, from Jeanine’s Project Love Photography Session, here.)

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who entered! It was a difficult decision to make, but with the help of my fellow judges, Monica, from Just Around the Corner (an upscale neighbourhood newsletter about local shops and services), and Janine, from beautygeeks (a fabulous blog about ALL things beauty), I have come to a decision.

Congratulations to Jeanine! Jeanine sent me the following email:

Hi Holly,
Thought I’d give the contest a whirl. I would LOVE to win so I could have some pictures taken of me and my beautiful baby daughter Brigitte. It’s just the two of us and although I love taking pictures of her (she’s 5 months now) we have very limited pictures of the two of us which I can snap with a free hand 🙂

I’m 41 years old – getting pregnant with Gigi was my 40th birthday present :).

I’m so lucky to have her and would love to have some pictures that show this.

Thanks so much,

Jeanine

And demonstrating how difficult it is to photograph herself and her daughter, she included this image:

Congratulations again Jeanine, I will be emailing you shortly to set up our session date! And for those that entered, but did not win, watch your email for a special offer from Holly Sisson Photography just for entering!

Watch for my photography session with Jeanine and Brigitte on this photography blog. Thanks again to everyone who entered and supported Project Love.

The P & S Family: Family Photography, Toronto, Ontario

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Cole (who is just so adorable!) and his Mom and Dad. Dad had bought Mom a photography gift certificate for their recent anniversary—what a wonderful idea for an anniversary gift!

(Equipment Used: For those who are interested, I shot primarily with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens and the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens.)

The shoot was scheduled for first thing on Saturday morning, which was very fortunate given the weather for the rest of the weekend! I think we broke a record for the amount of rain that weekend!

We decided to stick close to home and do the session at locations where they regularly spend time as a family, here’s the happy family:

_W5I0357.jpg

This is the third of a series as Cole came running towards us, loving the backlight, the weather was perfect for the shoot!

_W5I0384.jpg

Loving this shot of the family playing in the sand at their local park:

_W5I0416.jpg

Look at those adorable curls! Mom actually held off getting Cole his first official hair cut so he would have those curls for the shoot, too cute!

_W5I0414.jpg

They live in a very cool house in Cabbage Town, loving those front doors!

_MG_8873.jpg

Cole and Mom share a moment on the front lawn:

_MG_8878.jpg

Then we did some bathtub shots, what fun!

_W5I0515.jpg

I just adore the freshly washed still wet hair look, and Cole also has amazing eyes too!

_MG_9076.jpg

Looking forward to future photography sessions with Cole, can’t wait to capture the changes to come of this adorable young man!

Alyssa AnneAugust 7, 2009 - 1:21 pm

What a fun session! I love how you capture “them”.

MelissaAugust 9, 2009 - 7:14 pm

Oh, this is precious! You really captured real life in these images. What a perfect little family! I’m sure they are thrilled with these photos!

PaigeAugust 10, 2009 - 12:53 pm

Wow Holly. These shots are gorgeous! I love that you captured some very candid moments. And that little boy is the cutest!

ashleyAugust 12, 2009 - 9:33 pm

Wonderful session, Holly! Fantastic work:)

July 2009 EatSavvy: Commercial Food Photography

Another delicious EatSavvy Shoot! This month Salmon was on the menu, yum! I primarily used the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens, but also brought out the Canon 85 f1.2L lens and also, this month, the Canon 100 mm f2.8 macro lens.

(See “My Camera Equipment” in footer section for links/more information on camera equipment used.)

Noah was available to come along to the shoot, because of the strike he’s been out of camp all summer. This offered a bit of a change of pace for him! Minnow had some great books for him, so he just settled down in a big comfy chair to read:

_W5I0184.jpg

And then hid from me as soon as he realized I was photographing him!

Posting this blog post reminds me that I need to get out and pick up some salmon for the bbq…if only this rain would stop! 😉
