iPhone Photography: My New iPhone 4

I stood in line last Friday at the Apple store in the Eaton Centre to upgrade to the new iPhone 4, what a HUGE difference from my 3G! It is an amazing phone, and, no, I am not seeing any “antennagate” issues. πŸ™‚

This is one of the last photos I took with my old 3G, processed with a newly acquired photography app:

I created a custom Gelaskin for my new iPhone 4, love that the company is located right here in Toronto!

Here are a few shots from the new iPhone 4, processed with apps on the iPhone. The new camera is so much more responsive, I was actually able to capture my son as he jumped! But it’s almost too sharp for the photography I like to create with the iPhone, so takes a bit more time in iPhone apps to create a more artistic look. πŸ˜‰

Alice the Cat & Baby Robin Update: Toronto Photographer

I haven’t posted images of Alice lately, so thought it was time for some new ones, and to mix it up, quite a few are shot and processed on the Apple iPhone.

Really love this one, she is at the front window watching life go by:

The camera in the iPhone 3G isn’t fabulous, so I use iPhone apps to give the images a vintage ‘toy camera’ look:

My new faves for the iPhone are BlurFX and PictureShow. Blurring the background of the iPhone photos helps to bring the focus to the subject and smooth out/de-clutter the “everything in focus” aspect of the iPhone camera. PictureShow is great as there are SO many options from different effects, frames, light leaking, and noise, the only downside is it can take a while to decide on your fave look for the image!

This is a goofy photo of Alice, who was hanging out with me in my office, when she heard my daughter coming. She sat up straight and got this crazy wide-eyed look on her face, Rebecca and I laughed!

Alice in my office

She was still keeping an eye on Rebecca, before she settled down on my Apple Airport to snooze.Β The last image was a shot I captured of her snoozing on my daughter’s shoes?, you can see the iPhone version above, cats sleep in the strangest places! lolAlice-office-college.jpg

Well, from my previous post on the Robin’s nest in front of our house, you know there used to be two babies, but the smaller one disappeared. πŸ™ None of the Β other eggs ever hatched, so this little guy grew very fast! The following were shot with the Hipstamatic app on the iPhone, the little guy in his nest, and then all grown up out of the nest:

Shot with the Canon 1DMkIV with the 70-200mm f2.8L and the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro, we see the father keeping watch, below that the mother on the nest, the baby on the nest and then out of the nest:

Friendly Neighbourhood Cats: Toronto Cat Photography

I was out and about last night, enjoying the beautiful spring weather in Toronto, when I met some very friendly neighbourhood cats.

(Equipment Used: All images were shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 100 mm f2.8 macro lens, except where noted.)

Funnily enough there was a question about how to photograph black cats in the comments to my Q & A on moderncat.net yesterday, and then I met this beautiful cat (LOVE the eyes!):

He (she?) was difficult to photograph because he was so friendly! As soon as I’d get down on the ground to take the photograph, he was right there, nuzzling me, purring, even kneading the ground, so cute!

Then I went one street over and met these two beautiful cats (this one was shot with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens):

I think I’ll have to go back and visit again! πŸ™‚

Alice the Cat Update: Toronto Cat Photography

I have been taking photos of Alice over the last few weeks, so now it’s time to play “blog image catch-up” with them! Hope you enjoy! πŸ™‚

Alice loves hanging out on the window ledge in the living room, watching the world go by: (Equipment Used: Shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens.)

A couple of more window shots, and then a few where she was just hanging out on my bed. (All shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV. Top two with the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens, bottom left with the Canon 100 mm f2.8 macro lens and the bottom right with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens.)

Love this shot of her, with her beautiful tail curled around her as she snoozes on the shelf in my home office. (Shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV, Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens and the Canon 580EX II Speedlite.)

With the beautiful weather having arrived in Toronto, I decided it was time to introduce Alice to our deck. Right now she is still a bit nervous/skittish of being on the deck, but we have a harness/leash for her when she starts to get more adventurous! (Shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV, and first/last images with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens, middle two with the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens.)

The following four images were shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV, and the Lensbaby Composer with the Lensbaby Close-Up (Macro) Kit (+4) installed:

The following four images were shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV, and the Lensbaby Composer (no macro attachment). Interesting to me how much more pronounced the lensbaby affect is on these images vs. the images above with the macro attachment:

Will have a link to share, related to my pet photography, in the next day or two. Will post some more recent shots of Alice then too! πŸ™‚

The (half) Birthday Girl: Toronto Family Pet Photography

Funny how you mark the months before the first birthday. Alice turned six months old yesterday, no longer a kitten (sniff), but a beautiful young cat.

(Equipment Used: The following were captured with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 85 f1.2L lens, all but the first image were shot with the Canon 580EX II Speedlite as well.)

Captured yesterday, a grooming session on my printer:

The following were all captured on Wednesday, when Alice decided she wanted to hang out on a crowded shelf (covered rad) in my home office. She seemed to be asking me to clear her a spot:
20100224-_B3C1259.jpg

Which I did, for her comfort, and also to avoid items crashing to the floor as she crowded her way into ‘her spot’, lol:

(The previous storyboard was created from a fab tool called the moirai compositor, which I read about on the amazing Tara Whitney’s blog. Will use it for blogging but also for coffee table books, w00t!)
