January 2009 EatSavvy: Commercial Shoot

Another delicious EatSavvy shoot, with a bit of a (very pleasant!) surprise for me!

I have always wanted to like grapefruit, as I have always heard/read how nutritious it is for you. But I have always found it to be too bitter, and with an over powering taste (especially in a fruit salad). So I was very pleasantly surprised to find how much I enjoyed it in this month’s Red Grapefruit and Avocado Salad, I even went out grocery shopping the next day so I could prepare it at home for myself!

It turns out that the part I don’t like is the pith (membrane) part of the grapefruit. That is the part that is especially bitter/sour. The red grapefuit flesh itself is not bitter at all! So the trick is to cut away the flesh of the grapefruit from the bitter/sour pith, as shown in the following two images:

At the end of the shoot we all enjoyed the Dinner Party main course, Roasted Tomato and Sausage Linguini, it was delicious!

As always I’m looking forward to the yummy food at next month’s shoot already! 🙂

Just for fun!

And just for fun I thought I’d upload a photo I took today, before we took down all the Christmas lights.

Horses: Sunnybrook Stables, Toronto

A friend and I went to Sunnybrook Stables, here in Toronto, the other day to capture some horse photos. (Something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now!) We were lucky enough to run into an owner of one of the horses who invited us into the stable to take some photographs. Thanks Cindy!

Here are a few from the afternoon:

Christmas 2008

I have to admit I actually took a break this holiday season, staying away from the computer as much as possible. But now that my holiday is coming to a close I thought I should post some shots from the holiday season.

Here’s a shot of the holiday baking I did this season:

A shot of the presents and filled stockings under the tree:

Noah waits patiently for his sister to wake up, while keeping an eye on the presents:

Rebecca checks out the contents of her stocking:

Dogs, Cats and Hamsters, Oh My!: Pet Photography, Toronto

Our friends Ken, Deborah, Alison and Harry (who live just around the corner from us), recently brought home a BEAUTIFUL black standard poodle puppy, whom they call “Madeline”.

Isn’t she just gorgeous???

She is just so perfectly proportioned too! Perfect miniature of her future adult self.

Her face is a bit messy after her meal!

She’s chewing on the tail of her stuffed toy rat, in case you’re wondering what the heck that is! 😉

Their cat’s are adjusting very well! Misty has no problem hanging out on the couch with puppy, kids and strangers all about:

Roblin is chilling as well. (Yes, Roblin is missing an eye, she was adopted from the Humane Society, and her eye had to be removed due to infection.)

And then, I thought, I should take some photos of my daughter’s pet hamster, Norbert, especially since I had photographed her brother’s pet beta fish, Dragon, quite a while ago!

Here Norbert tries to escape—that’s my theory anyway!:

LOVE the bokeh in this shot!

Photographing a hamster in low light is very challenging, they twitch very fast! Would love to do some more photos of Norbert, but in better light next time!
