Out & About, Catch-Up Blog Posting: Toronto Family Photographer

This is a big catch-up blog posting, as I haven’t posted for a while!

I recently went downtown to Queen Street West with my daughter, and we found this adorable fascinator in a downstairs store on Queen Street for just $15, where almost the exact same thing was selling for $30 a half block away! It was an awesome shop, we will certainly visit again soon:

A few weeks ago we were at the Summerhill Reservoir, and we met Gordon, who looks very much like a Golden Retriever I grew up with:

More shots of Gordon, and, yes, Noah ended up with very wet feet! Rebecca brought along her book:

I went on a photo walk with Toronto Photo Walks this past Saturday, lots of animals!

Met this cat on the way home:

The beautiful long haired cat was sitting in the front window of a home on route. The shot of the bowls was from inside a Buddhist Temple via Doors Open:

Dandelions everywhere!

I also took quite a few shots with my iPhone, but need a few more days to do something creative with them! They’ll show up soon! 🙂

Out & About With My Daughter: Toronto Family Photographer

Out and about recently with my daughter, if you look closely (hint, the ears!), you’ll see what her grade 8 graduation gift from me was (the third image shows it):

(Equipment Used: Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 85 f1.2L lens.)

We were waiting for friends, on their front porch, to go and check out a local gallery, and I captured a few shots of Rebecca’s purse (that she made) with all her cool buttons. And then a shot of Rebecca and Alison (who I’ve blogged about before, she LOVES Rebecca, see this blog posting from Halloween 2008, 6th photo down, of her with Rebecca) as we walked to the gallery:

Then Rebecca and I went off to the Sewing Studio, so she could finish up her graduation dress. I blogged about the fabric choice for the dress before, and can’t wait to photograph Rebecca in the completed dress:

Wonderful Summer Weather in April: Out & About, Toronto Family Photographer

For those that live in Toronto, wasn’t the weather over the Easter long weekend amazing? Summer in April, total bliss!

On the Saturday of the long weekend Rebecca came out with me to run some errands in the beautiful weather. (Equipment Used: The following were all shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and my beloved Canon 85 f1.2L lens, it gives amazing bokeh!)

One of my fave spots for photos in our ‘hood is under the train bridge, have used it often before (see here, and here, and here). Love how the red laces stand out!

The night before, we all celebrated the beautiful warm weather by going out to dinner, managing to snag a spot on the back patio at The Rebel House. After we went for dessert at My Favourite Ice Cream. (All of the following were shot with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens, except for the last photo of Rebecca eating ice cream, which was shot with the Canon 85 f1.2L lens.)

Dramatic B & W Photo Challenge

One of my fave family photographers, Tara Whitney, is the Guest Photography Judge at iheartfaces.blogspot.com for this week’s photo challenge theme, which is “Dramatic B & W”. Other then being a black & white image, the only other criteria (besides being ‘Dramatic’) is that the image contain a human face, so I hope this image fits the bill!

I captured this image back in 2007 with my first Canon SLR, the 30D. I have since upgraded, first to the Canon 5D and then to the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV. This image was shot with the Canon 100 mm f2.8 macro lens, which does a fabulous job of showing amazing detail in portraits. I have this image framed in my bedroom, and also printed as a 20×20 metallic print, which is one of the samples I show at the in-person proofing meeting.

I debated entering with this image, but wasn’t sure there was enough ‘face’. The second image in this blog posting, of my daughter Rebecca, is also a favourite…alas, I can only enter one, so this is it! 🙂

Miles, the Adorable Toddler: Toronto Family Photography

As promised, my larger sneak peek of the adorable toddler Miles. Laura, Miles’ mom, has captured her older daughters in photographs when they each turned one year old, and now it is Mile’s turn. It’s a wonderful age to capture, as they grow so quickly, and change so fast!

(Equipment Used: The following were captured with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 85 f1.2L lens—in some of the shots, from this shoot, I also used my Canon 580EX II Speedlite.)

Miles has a wonderful little room right off mom and dad’s room:

Love this serious shot of Miles in his crib, such a soulful look!

Miles loves playing in his sisters’ room, with the windows all around it was a perfect spot for photographs:

Look at those blue eyes! Aren’t they amazing? (Shot with the Canon 5D and the Canon 100 mm f2.8 macro lens.)

I can never resist bathtub photos! The water accentuates the eyelashes, which really makes Miles’ beautiful eyes pop. (Next three images were taken with the Canon EOS-1D MarkIV and the Canon 24–70 mm f2.8L lens.)

Always love the snuggling in the towel after the bath shots too!

Can’t wait to go back and photograph Miles with his two older sisters! Laura and I are hoping for some snow, but I don’t know if Mother Nature will co-operate this winter! Fingers are crossed for a fun snowy shoot Laura! 🙂
